Indians slam Emma Watson for supporting Asifa Bano’s Lawyer

Hollywood star Emma Watson received backlash on social media after tweeting in support of Deepika Rajawat, who is the defense counsel for the Kathua rape case victim, Asifa Bano.

Emma Watson, who is known for her role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter series, shared an article on Deepika Rajawat on her Twitter account with the caption, ‘all power to Deepika Singh Rajawat’.

Deepika Rajawat is representing the family of an 8-year-old victim Asifa Bano, who was killed after being raped multiple times for a week. Asifa Bano’s body was recovered from Rassana forest in the Kathua district of Indian occupied Kashmir, a week after she went missing.The victim was kidnapped from the forest area where she was grazing her horses. Asifa Bano was sedated, tortured and raped in a temple before being killed.

A Twitter user claimed Rajawat is working on an agenda against the Indian Army and Emma Watson is supporting her agenda by tweeting in her favor.

The young actress, Emma Watson expressed her solidarity with Deepika Rajawat, who is reportedly encountering resistance from the Hindutva and hardliners. Deepika Rajawat, in her several media statements has informed about the threats she has received from detractors who wish to save the culprits in the case.

The Hindutva supporters criticized Emma Watson and maligned Deepika Rajawat on social media. They said Rajawat aims for fame instead of fighting for the justice for the 8-year-old Asifa Bano.

The opponents claimed Emma Watson is following fake news without any investigation.  A Twitter user claimed Rajawat is working on an agenda against the Indian Army and Emma Watson is supporting her agenda by tweeting in her favor.

Emma Watson was appointed United Nation’s Goodwill ambassador in 2014. She delivered a powerful speech on gender equality and launched the campaign ‘He for She’. The campaign aims to encourage men to take part in the fight against gender equality. Emma Watson has been quite vocal on campaigns against sexual harassment.
