KP’s Additional Inspector General Ashraf Noor martyred in gruesome Peshawar suicide attack

On Friday, Additional Inspector General Headquarters (AIG) Ashraf Noor and his gunman were martyred in a suicide attack near Zarghooni Mosque in Hayatabad, Peshawar.

According to Peshawar Police, it was a suicide blast. The martyred AIG’s vehicle came under attack when he was on his way to work this morning. Based on the eyewitness account, a motorcyclist bumped into the Police vehicle with the AIG and other police officers, which left the vehicle in flames.

Early reports suggest that at least six policemen were injured in the blast and were immediately shifted to Hayatabad Medical Complex.  The injured driver Zeeshan told the media that the other policeman martyred in the attack was sitting on a passenger seat, while, the deceased AIG was seated in the back seat.

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi condemned the attack and expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and also praised the sacrifices of the policemen.

The site of the blast was cordoned off, and security officials conducted a search operation in the surrounding areas to find out any possible evidence related to the incident. The bomb disposal squad officials present on the site claimed that approximately, 15-20 kilograms of explosive was used in the blast.

This gruesome attack was condemned from all quarters, and the bravery of the martyrs was lauded. While speaking to the media, the KP police chief said, “Ashraf Noor was a faithful and principled person officer, and his martyrdom has given the K-P police a new resolve to continue our fight against terrorism”.

The chairman of the ruling party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan condemned the cowardly attack on the policemen in a tweet, where he reaffirmed the determination and dedication of the KP police.

Saddened to learn of the martyrdom of Additional IG KP, Ashraf Noor, in condemnable Peshawar blast. It will not deter the determination and dedication of KP police and PTI govt in their fight against terrorism.

DG ISPR Major General Asif Ghafoor also paid tribute to the fallen officer with the following tweet:

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi condemned the attack and expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and also praised the sacrifices of the policemen, nation and law enforcement agencies in the fight against terrorism. He further stated that Pakistan’s resolve against uprooting terrorism cannot be shaken.
