PML-N leader and former Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahid Khaqan claimed that party president Shehbaz Sharif will be the PML-N candidate for prime minister. However, this did not sit well PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz.
To clarify, Shahid Khaqan claimed that PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz is not a prime minister’s candidate of PML-N. He also said she is not eligible to contest the election owing to corruption charges on her. Shahid Khaqan further asserted that the PML-N prime minister’s candidate will be the party president Shehbaz Sharif.

Important to note, Shahid Khaqan made the statements due to PML-N’s general practice of choosing the party president as a candidate for prime minister.
“It has been a general practice that whoever is the party president becomes the prime minister. Shehbaz Sharif is the party president and he will be our candidate,” Shahid Khaqan said.
Maryam Nawaz angry at Shahid Khaqan
As a result, Maryam Nawaz is currently upset with Shahid Khaqan. Senior journalist Arif Hameed Bhatti made the revelations during a talk show. He said that PML-N needs to sort out its internal affairs. On this note, he recalled Shahid Khaqan’s statements on Shehbaz Sharif. He said due to this Maryam Nawaz is extremely upset and she questioned Shahid Khaqan’s authority.
“Who is he to make such decisions?” Arif Hameed Bhatti said while quoting Maryam Nawaz.

Arif Hameed said that Maryam Nawaz expressed her sentiments during her son’s wedding. She claimed that she gave the most sacrifices for the party. She went to jail, and she was disqualified.
“Who is Shahid Khaqan to decide Shahbaz Sharif as PML-N candidate for prime minister,” Maryam Nawaz allegedly said. However, Arif Hameed noted that Shahid Khaqan belongs to Maryam Nawaz’s camp.

Moreover, Arif Hameed also said that Maryam is determined to become the PML-N candidate at any cost. He noted that conflicts within the Sharif family have begun and Maryam Nawaz will become an obstacle for Shehbaz Sharif. Additionally, Maryam Nawaz also conveyed to PML-N supreme leader Nawaz Sharif that only she will be the PML-N candidate for prime minister.
Important to note, PML-N often claims that there are no internal rifts and divisions within the party. However, experts and sources claim otherwise.
