PPP leader Aitzaz Ahsan has said Asif Ali Zardari is “Iron Man”

Pakistan People's Party senior threw shades at former premier Nawaz Sharif for traveling to the UK for treatment and taking refuge from court cases on health grounds. Compared to Nawaz Sharif, Asif Zardari is tenacious and headstrong who is facing cases here in Pakistan.

Pakistan People’s Party leader, Aitzaz Ahsan slammed former premier Nawaz Sharif who fled to the UK on the purported reason of life-threatening ailment that according to PML-N was not treatable in Pakistan.

He drew a comparison between the tenacity of Asif Ali Zardari and PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif, calling Asif Zardari an ‘iron man who is a steadfast and determined person’. Adding that Asif Zardari’s condition is more severe than Nawaz Sharif. He recalled that living up to his legacy Nawaz Sharif again fled from the country as he did in 2000. He said that unlike Nawaz Sharif, Asif Ali Zardari is staying in Pakistan to fight his cases. He expressed his views while talking to the media.

He claimed that Nawaz Sharif had held talks with Saudi Arabia and the UK. He said the party urged Zardari to file bail plea several times, he, however, did not agree. Asif Zardari has put forth two demands- first, he should be treated by his doctor and that his case to be heard in Karachi.

He went on to say the appointment of army chief is prerogative of Prime Minister (PM). Adding the merit of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s decision to give an extension to COAS Qamar Javed Bajwa is altogether another debate. He alerted that sensitive situation prevails in the country is grave but he does not anticipate a martial law in the future.

Adding that regardless of Imran Khan’s decision being the right or wrong, it is not the right of the judge or anyone else to make an appointment of COAS.

He observed neither army chief nor chief justice possesses the powers in connection with extension. It is stipulated in Article 243 that the president can grant an extension to a person who is recommended by Prime Minister.

On the other hand, he did not cast suspicion on the health condition of Nawaz Sharif but criticized Nawaz Sharif for running away amid the court cases.

Nawaz Sharif was granted temporary bail for eight weeks from Islamabad High Court on health grounds. Unsatisfied with the treatment in Pakistan, PML-N had pressed the state authorities to allow Nawaz Sharif to travel abroad for treatment.
