According to a statement released on Friday, the government of Sindh has chosen to implement austerity measures to reduce spending.

According to the notification, all provincial government departments would have their petrol allotment reduced by 40%, and official dinner, lunch, and high-tea events would be severely curtailed.

In order to ensure the responsible use of public funds, the austerity plan, which was adopted after receiving permission from the Sindh cabinet, reduces wasteful expenditure.

It was crucial to conserve resources because Sindh’s province and nation were both experiencing financial difficulties.

In addition to reducing spending to close the fiscal deficit, the notification claimed that the Sindh government had taken extraordinary steps to ensure the wise use of public funds.

The implementation of austerity measures will start right away.

A complete restriction on the creation of new positions, the hiring of employees paid on a daily basis, and the purchase of office furnishings is imposed, with the exception of development initiatives.

With the exception of required visits, official lunches, dinners, and hi-tea except for foreign delegations, the Cabinet has banned government functionaries from travelling on official business while receiving funding from the Sindh government.

However, only tea may be served during official meetings with light refreshments.

Principal Accounting Officers must make sure that utilities are consumed at a 10% lower rate, that POL ceilings are decreased by 40% in light of the Finance Department’s circular letter from March 6, 2022, and that unnecessary travel is eliminated by encouraging the use of zoom and video links.

In collaboration with administrative agencies, the officers will also see to it that positions that have been empty for the past three years are eliminated.
