Telefilm on Zainab Ansari; father to sue the TV channel

Mohammad Amin Ansari, the father of an eight-year-old Zainab Ansari has decided to sue the local TV channel that recently announced to produce a telefilm named ‘Zainab Ka Qatil’. Amin said the channel did not seek the family’s permission before announcing the telefilm.

“The TV channel did not bother to seek my permission. I would not allow anyone to use the name of my daughter for one’s vested interest. I am going to sue the TV channel that has announced making a telefilm on Zainab,” stated Mr. Ansari.

Recently, a local TV channel announced to make a telefilm based on the adaptation of Zainab Ansari’ rape and murder incident. Zainab Ansari from Kasur was among the unfortunate children who had been the victims of sexual abuse. The horrible rape case of Zainab Ansari was first reported in January that caused an international outcry.

The TV channel, however, announced that the main aim of the telefilm is to teach the parents about how to protect their children and spread general awareness on the issues, as cases of child abuse are rampant in our society.

Mohammad Amin added he will sue the UK-based Non-Governmental Organization for using his daughter name for their ‘vested ‘interest. The announcement of telefilm on Zainab Ansari attracted huge criticism from her family, local public, and social media. They blamed the media channel for sensationalizing a sensitive issue.

According to the reports, Suhail Sameer will play therapist, Imran. Hamna Amir is expected to play Zainab. The drama serial also stars Irfan Khoosat and Saba Faisal.

The telefilm that is currently under-production and is titled ‘Zainab Ke Qatil’. The famous novelist, Umera Ahmed has written the script for the telefilm. She also penned the dialogues of the highly popular drama serial ‘Baaghi’ that was based on the life of the slain internet sensation, Qandeel Baloch.

It is expected from the telefilm makers to be responsible towards the privacy of the victim’s family. It is uncertain why the production house did not seek the permission of Zainab’s family before announcing the Telefilm.

The drama serial should purely serve its purpose of spreading awareness instead of ratings and TRP. Previously, a drama serial ‘Udaari’ featuring Urwa Hocane, Ahsan Khan and Farhan Khan, too, raised the issue of child abuse.
