TLP banned: Pakistan lauds Sheikh Rasheed, Government for bold decision

The government has rallied massive support on social media after its decision, however, some analysts fear that the party will strongly react to the decision which has potentially risked the lives of decision-makers.

Social media lauds the decision of the Government of Pakistan to ban TLP as a political party announced by Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed. The government has charged the party under the terrorism act. Originally, a religious party, TLP had been active in the politics of Pakistan.

For the past few days, the party followers had disturbed the law and order situation across Pakistan in the form of widespread protests. The protestors had blocked main highways connecting cities and roads leading to hours-long traffic jams forcing people to remain stuck in long queues on weekends. Clashes between police and protestors erupted in various cities causing two police officers to lose their lives.

Videos circulating on social media showed protestors brutally torturing abducted police officers, damaging public property, and creating a nuisance for citizens. Hence, in a much-called for action again the protestors, the government has imposed a ban on TLP.

Social media users including political analysts and commentators and people from various walks of life have lauded the action taken by the strict action taken by the government.

Shahbaz Taseer while lauding the decision said that, “Support the federal government at all cost. They have put their lives and livelihoods in danger by taking this bold and progressive step to save our country.”

“#WellDoneSheikhRasheed! Govt has done the right thing by taking this bold decision! Banning TLP for street terror! All political parties should unite in a stand against road blockages & street violence by crowds of any kind,” wrote anchorperson Moeed Pirzada.

Several social media users noted that the government has risked the lives of its people by taking brave and bold decisions hence they must be supported in their actions to curb the menace of religious extremism in Pakistan.
