Hence ‘secondwife.com’ helps men and women to find a suitable partner for themselves if they are discontent with their current partners.

According to the owner, he created the website during his own search for a second wife. He realized that there would be many in the same situation like his.

“The second wife website came about from my need and thinking there’ll be other people in my situation. There are other deceiving ways of doing it – affairs, prostitution etc. – those are not necessarily good for relationships. Here it’s more honorable. It takes two hands to clap; a guy can’t do it on his own. We’ve got so many successful marriages and so many women signed up themselves…they are opting to enter this kind of relationship.”

The website is encouraging polygamy which is a legal offense in the UK. The offenders can face imprisonment up to seven years under the rule of the land.

Bigamy is a crime in the UK but the law does not cover such marriages organized under the banner of religion. Islam however, does allow men to have more than one wife.

The website’s high number of users is self-explanatory of its popularity among men. One can also understand how beloved the idea of polygamy is to men.

The website caters to the needs of only married men seeking additional wives. No particular arrangements are made for men seeking their first wives. However, the website offer services to women seeking either their first husband or second husband.

Women are required to update their profile with name, age, and their photo. However, the website does not bother to do any kind of fact checking regarding the information put up by the users.

But the concept of the website has been strongly challenged by women. They have called the website an absurd effort that only damages women in either way.

Campaigners like Yasmin Rashid and a politician from Labour Party have lambasted the website. They all have come together to jointly demand the authorities to outlaw the website.

“The popularity of this site worries me deeply. This site should be outlawed for UK use and follow the law in the UK which does not allow this. Women are not a commodity, they are not domestic slaves. People cannot be collected like ornaments.”
