The spread of the coronavirus Delta variant is reaching alarming levels in Karachi with positivity rate of 24 percent. Public and some private sector hospitals had reached full capacity by the eve of the Eidul Azha holiday and began to declare health emergencies. As infections surge across the country, the Sindh government also decided to impose further restrictions.

According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), 3,752 coronavirus cases have been reported during the last 24 hours, taking the national positivity rate to a whopping 7.51 percent as the country battles a fourth wave of the pandemic. This is the highest number since the month of May of this year.

Moreover, the provincial government plans to ask the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to block the mobile phone sims of all unvaccinated individuals after a week’s notice.
