Has the Metaverse’s Launch Been a Flop for Facebook?

Mark Zuckerberg is the founder of one of the best social media around. Facebook wasn’t pretty popular when it first came out, but slowly it turned into one of the most popular social media with millions of users. It had people across the world creating profiles, updating profile pictures, sharing links with videos or music, and playing games.

Fast forward to today, and you’ve got online communities tied to each site. Gamers will revolve around platforms like Twitch and Discord regardless of the kinds of games they enjoy. In the world of iGaming players will create a community around a certain site like Casumo online casino because of the proper games and service.

It was a year ago, that Facebook got renamed to Meta as Mark Zuckerberg introduced the world to a new way of being social online. The Metaverse was born and it was supposed to be the latest social medium, but this turned out to be quite a flop.

What Was Shown

The Metaverse was shown to be a new virtual space where people could get together. Similar to Facebook, they would be able to create a profile and will also get an avatar. They would be able to customize their avatar however they wish. So, they’ll be able to clothe it and use it in real-time to move about the vast virtual space. Users would be able to get together with other people via the avatars and interact with them. They could have some drinks and snacks too at virtual locations throughout the Metaverse.

To make the experience more surreal Zuckerberg announced that users would be able to log into their accounts or avatars with a VR headset and make their avatars come to life. In short, the Metaverse was supposed to be a new step in the way of social media. But it didn’t go exactly as planned as Metaverse didn’t lead up to its expectations. There aren’t that many users and most of them aren’t looking to stay. But why is that?

How It Is

The best way to explain the flop of the Metaverse project is via a comparison to a game, a certain kind of game. Nowadays, the gaming industry rushes to release a game rather than complete it. Then they would release several patches to fix things which would lead certain players to think that the studio doesn’t take its job seriously.

In other words, the Metaverse is riddled with bugs. Users have reported multiple times that they’ve seen avatars floating around as their legs are nowhere to be found. The virtual world has around 50 visitors although there were over 200,00 visitors that only decided to go for a single visit. The development team behind it is not introducing any new features until all the bugs are fixed.

In short, the Metaverse flopped because it was released before it was completed. It’s going to need to patch itself up before new users start rolling in.
