Hindi Medium’s grand opening in China

Saba Qamar and Irrfan Khan’s ‘Hindi Medium’ is enjoying a grand opening at the Chinese box office. The movie was presented for screening in China on the 4th April 2018. 

It has edged out previous Bollywood releases ‘Bajrangi Bhaijan’ and ‘Dangal’. Hindi Medium has earned $3.68 million standing slightly behind the Aamir Khan’s ‘Dangal’ that earned $6.4 million on its opening day.

With its screening in China, ‘Hindi Medium’ has garnered profits of USD 22 million to date. ‘Hindi Medium’ has become another Bollywood movie that made a massive impact in the foreign cinema.

Audiences in China seem to connect well with the soul-stirring themes of the Bollywood movies as they see a striking similarity of societal issues in both the countries.

‘Hindi Medium’ is a story of the couple that strives to get their daughter enrolled in an English medium school. Pakistan’s Saba Qamar was in the lead role of the movie. It was her debut Bollywood movie that granted actress a huge appreciation from the audiences and critics.

‘Dangal’ was the first Bollywood film that was presented for screening in China. A father’s determination to teach his daughter how to wrestle touched the audiences as well as China’s President Xi Jinping. He once congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for making a tremendous movie ‘Dangal’.

Later ‘Secret Superstar’ and Bajrangi Bhaijan followed ‘Dangal’. A mother’s perseverance to fulfill her daughter’s dream of becoming a singer in ‘Secret Superstar’ and India-Pakistan theme in ‘Bajrangi Bhaijan’ impressed the Chinese audiences. Salman Khan’s ‘Bajrangi Bhaijan’ earned $2.25 million

Pakistani cinema should explore the potential in the markets like China and other Asian countries.
