“I Don’t Take Salary, I Take Pressure”: CM Maryam Nawaz Tells Officials to Step Up

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said she takes “pressure, not salary,” urging officials to work harder and handle the demands of governance.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has said that she chooses to bear responsibility rather than draw a salary, urging government officials to demonstrate dedication and resilience in their roles.

Speaking during a high-level meeting with provincial officials and cabinet members, Maryam emphasized the importance of hard work and accountability. “I don’t take a salary, but I am here to take pressure,” she remarked, stressing that public service requires commitment and the ability to perform under demanding conditions.

The chief minister also highlighted her personal work ethic, noting that she sleeps only four to six hours a day. She added that despite the long hours, she remains fully attentive during official engagements. “You will never see me dozing off or sleeping in meetings,” she said, calling on officials to match her level of focus and discipline. She further warned that those unable to handle the pressure of governance should consider pursuing a different career path.

Maryam Nawaz made history on February 26, 2024, when she became the first woman to be elected as chief minister of Punjab. Since assuming office, she has gained prominence as a leading female political figure in Pakistan. Her tenure has been marked by several initiatives aimed at improving public services, including the “Suthra Punjab” programme focused on sanitation and civic management.

Begum Kulsoom Nawaz played a pivotal role in sustaining the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz during challenging times, particularly when former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was imprisoned.
