Journalist explains why she hit boy during live broadcast

The video of the incident went viral on social media. Hashmi received mixed reviews on social media, however, did she do the right thing?

Journalist Maria Hashmi went viral on social media after she hit a boy during live reporting on the TV channel. Hashmi was reporting live on television on Eid-ul-Adha when suddenly she hit the boy during live coverage.

The video of the incident went viral on social media. Hashmi received mixed reviews on social media, however, users unanimously asked the reason why she slapped the boy. Users were of the view that whatever might be the reason she should not have slapped the boy during live coverage on television.

Later, taking to Twitter, she said that she hit the boy because he was misbehaving with the girls and families standing behind her. In her tweet, she said,  “This guy was harassing the family during the interview – which made the family upset.” She said she warned the boy not to disturb the family but he did not listen then she slapped him because she could not tolerate his behavior.

In another tweet, she said, “I have the respect of everyone, be it men or women, but no one has the right to go out of his way to discriminate against a girl if you all think I did it wrong.” The journalist added that she will do the same mistake if she confronts the same situation in the future.

Some social media users believe that the journalist is misquoting facts to hide her mistake. They argued that the viral video does not show the boy teasing the family instead he was playing with his friend.

Others said that being a journalist she should have recorded the video and showed the evidence to the police who would have taken appropriate action against the boy. Journalist should not have hit the boy and taken the laws into her hands.

There needs to be made a proper mechanism to stop the harassment issues in public.
