The hate campaign was the result of the decision of the Supreme Court of Pakistan that upheld the decision of the Election Commission of Pakistan to take away the bat symbol from PTI before the elections.

Supreme Court of Pakistan has declared the intra-party elections of Pakistan Tehreek-I-Insaf as ‘unconstitutional’. PTI candidates were forced to fight with independent election symbols. Following this, social media users expressed their anger against the decision.

The social media campaign lead the caretaker government to constitute a high-powered JIT to probe the social media campaign.

Following the incident, a wave of online posts emerged, targeting Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Isa and several other judges in a hate-driven campaign. Over 600 accounts were identified in connection with this campaign, resulting in inquiries being initiated against approximately 100 of them.

Moreover, authorities dispatched call-up notices to numerous politicians and political activists. However, the highest court instructed officials to refrain from harassing journalists during the process.

As per a notification obtained by ARY News, the federal government has established a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) under Section 30 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016. The committee will be led by the Additional Director General of the Cyber Crime Wing of the FIA.

It includes members from various agencies such as the Intelligence Bureau (IB), Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), and the DIG of Islamabad Police. JIT was responsible for ascertaining the reasons behind the malicious campaigns.
