Mehwish Hayat sets social media on fire with ‘desi girl vibes’ in latest dance number

While Hayat channeled her ‘desi girl vibes’ in the song, the expansive and vibrant TVC showcasing the cultures of Pakistan failed to garner sweeping appreciation on social media.

Pakistani actress Mehwish Hayat has released the promo of an upbeat song recorded as the TVC for a biscuit brand. The actress has donned heavily embellished traditional outfits and jewellery in the song as she energetically dances to the beats of the Punjabi melody. The company released the television commercial last week.

While Hayat channeled her ‘desi girl vibes’ in the song, the expansive and vibrant TVC showcasing the cultures of Pakistan failed to garner sweeping appreciation on social media. The internet users gave a mixed reaction on the TVC. Some users lauded her performance while some expressed shock on her selection of a ‘bizarre’ project.

The TVC also stoked a debate around indecency on social media. A debate picked up between Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Fawad Chaudhry, and senior journalist, Ansar Abbasi, on the subject just a few days after their previous altercation on the video of a woman exercising on a state-run channel PTV.

Abbasi while voicing his concerns had tagged Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority and Prime Minister Imran Khan in his tweet asking them to take notice of the increasing trend of dancing in the TVCs. He added that the culture of dancing was tantamount to indecency and against the principles of the Islamic faith.

“Mujra will now run on TV channels to sell biscuits. PEMRA @reportpemraIs there an institution by name here? What @ImranKhanPTI Will you take any action on this matter? Wasn’t Pakistan built in the name of Islam ??” wrote Abbasi in a tweet.

Meanwhile, Chaudhry dissed the journalist and said,”Why do you and Ali keep searching for obscenity 24 hours a day? Do something productive,” in a tweet.
