Phone meeting between Biden and Xi Jinping has become talk of the world

Xi urged for collaboration on lowering the risk of economic recession, coordinating macroeconomic policies, combating COVID-19, and "de-escalation of regional hot spots"

Today’s phone meeting between Joe Biden and Xi Jinping has become talk of the world as it might be there most tense exchange until now. During a phone call with his US counterpart, Joe Biden, President Xi Jinping warned against meddling in China’s dealings with Taiwan. There was no indication of progress on trade, technology, or other irritants, including Beijing’s opposition to a top American lawmaker visiting the island democracy, which the mainland claims as its own territory.

According to Joe Biden, “today I spoke with President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China as part of our efforts to deepen lines of communication, responsibly manage our differences, and address issues of mutual interest.”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s proposed trip to Taiwan is ratcheting up tensions before the first conversation between the US and Chinese leaders since March. A sitting speaker hasn’t been to the island since 1997, and Beijing has warned of repercussions if the visit goes forward.

The US has no formal relations with Taiwan, but it has strong trade links and informal political relationships. Federal law requires Washington to ensure that Taiwan has the means to defend itself.

According to the government statement, Xi urged for collaboration on lowering the risk of economic recession, coordinating macroeconomic policies, combating COVID-19, and “de-escalation of regional hot spots.”

As per government report, Xi also warned against dividing the world’s two largest economies, the U.S. and Chinese for strategic reasons.

Business community and economists are of the view that such a shift, caused by Chinese industrial strategy and US restrictions on technology exports, might harm the global economy by reducing innovation and raising costs.

The news has become a topic of discussion on Twitter. Congressman Byron Donalds expressed his views regarding the news by stating that this is an immediate consequence of reckless Democrat spending by Biden, Pelosi, and Schumer—full stop. “One-party Democrat rule isn’t working, their policies are failing, and Americans are hurting,” he added.

Moreover, Special Advisor for Communications at Senator Ted Cruz, Stever Guest shared a clip of Barack Obama back in 2010 and quoted his words, “you don’t raise taxes in a recession. “The last thing you want to do is to raise taxes in the middle of a recession.”
