PM requests authorities to initiate ‘friendly’ awareness campaign about COVID-19

Prime Minister Imran Khan has asked authorities to avoid enforcing restrictions on people to contain COVID-19. On the other hand information minister has called for strict measures and has warned that cases will shoot up if COVID-19 not taken seriously.

Prime Minister Imran Khan has emphasized on a friendly awareness campaign about COVID-19.

According to media reports while chairing a meeting about the coronavirus situation in Islamabad, the Prime Minister said instead of forcing the people to adopt precautionary measures, there is a need of creating awareness among them.

Imran Khan also advised media to pursue the people in a more effective way about adopting precautionary measures and implementing the guidelines regarding containing the virus.

He said imposing lockdown is not a solution to the coronavirus and the government is taking its decisions according to the ground realities and condition of the people.

However, due to the unprecedented situation, the government is also maintaining balance between hunger and the lockdown.

The meeting deliberated upon various matters regarding future number of COVID -19 cases and availability of beds in hospitals in this situation.

The meeting also reviewed various steps about the health facilities and increase in capacity of hospitals.

Information Minister Shibli Faraz has asked the people to exercise responsibility as a mature nation in the prevailing situation.

According to media reports he said this in an exclusive talk regarding crowding of people in markets after relaxation in lockdown.

Information Minister warned that if people did not exercise caution, the cases of corona could be increased.

He said decision regarding relaxation in lockdown has been made after consultation with all the provinces.

The Minister said we have to create a balance between stopping the spread of disease and hunger.

Regarding the role of opposition in the prevailing situation, he said some opposition members are doing politics at this sensitive time.

Shibli Faraz said there should be accountability for corruption under the law.

The Minister said 31 billion rupees have been provided to Sindh under Ehsaas Emergency Cash programme.

The Minister admitted there are some issues in quarantine centers, but the government is making best efforts to provide facilities to people according to its resources.
