Scolded Amir for misbehaving with players, Babar Azam: Shahid Afridi

Afridi said he talked to Amir and explained to him that his behavior is not acceptable. He will have to behave if he wants to play in Pakistan Cricket Team.

Former cricketer Shahid Afridi says he has scolded Muhammad Amir for his rude and insolent behavior with other players especially Babar Azam on the field during HBLPSL 8 match.

Amir was spotted misbehaving with several players in the first two matches against Peshawar Zalmi and Islamabad United. The Karachi Kings bowlers were caught misbehaving with Babar Azam, and Muhammad Haris when he delivered a boundary on his bowl.

Amir had a heated exchange with Tom Curran in the same match. He had a spat with emerging batsman Hassan Nawaz. Amir gave him a send-off after taking his wicket. He tried to throw the ball at Babar Azam.

Afridi said he talked to Amir and explained to him that his behavior is not acceptable. He will have to behave if he wants to play in Pakistan Cricket Team.

“Whenever a player doesn’t perform, or even if he does, I drop him a message to call him. Likewise, I messaged Amir yesterday. I talked to him respectfully, but I also scolded him. I told Amir, ‘what do you want?’ You have gained so much respect, you faced a blot on your reputation and from there, you made a return. You got a new life, in a way. What are you even trying to do?” Afridi said.

“Is this the way to play? There are juniors around you, you are using bad words. There are fans who are disheartened to see that. Even we have used such words and sometimes, the camera used to catch us. There are families, and kids watching you on television. Aggression is fine, but keep it under control,” Afridi further said.

Amir was irritated after Babar Azam hit him for a boundary. He tried to throw the ball at Babar Azam in desperation.

“If you want to play for Pakistan, you have to play alongside Babar only. Will you be able to look him in the eye? Can you play under his captaincy? Focus on your performance, control your aggression, and go back home peacefully,” Afridi said.
