Victim in Karachi DHA assault case pardons the suspect

Victim Pardons Influential Businessman in Karachi DHA Assault Case, But Court Rejects NOC Citing Coercion

A victim in the Karachi DHA assault case has allegedly forgiven the accused, Salman Farooqi, an influential businessman in Karachi. Victim Sudhir announced his pardon for Salman Farooqi in a court appearance on Thursday.

The victim further said that he has pardoned Farooqi and does not wish to pursue any case against him. Earlier in the week judicial magistrate had ordered the arrest of two individuals, Salman Farooqi and Owais Hashmi,  in a complaint registered against them regarding assaulting a biker and DHA.

A complaint was registered by an eyewitness identified as Saleem. He said a minor collision happened between a bike and an SUV. The victim had immediately apologized for the collision; however, Farooqi and his accomplice captured the boy, took him to his car, and beat and assaulted him and threatened him at gunpoint. They even rejected the pleas of the boy to let him go.

“I was not aware that the court had summoned me,” he said. “The lawyer told me today, so I appeared.”

The judicial magistrate asked Dheeraj whether he was facing any sort of pressure.

“It was my fault, my bike hit his car,” Dheeraj told the court.

“I do not want to file a case. I forgive the suspect,” he said, adding, “Whatever the court decides, I will have no objection.”

Public prosecutor Irfana Qadri said that a case has been registered against the suspect for humiliating and threatening a woman.

“These are non-bailable charges,” Qadri said. The court reserved its verdict after the lawyers’ arguments.

In a separate hearing, Additional District and Session Judge Abdul Zahoor Chandio rejected the bail plea filed by Salman Khan and Owais Hashmi. Dheeraj filed a No Objection Certificate (NOC). However, the court rejected the NOC, noting that the affidavit had been submitted under pressure and coercion.
