Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, on Thursday, underscored that New Delhi stands in opposition of the meeting convened by the United Nations Security Council to discuss the Kashmir dispute.

Commenting on the UN Security Council meeting, scheduled to be held on Friday (today), Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi referred to it as a big diplomatic success for Pakistan. The Foreign Minister noted that it has triggered panic in New Delhi.

Speaking to a private news platform, Shah Mehmood Qureshi said, “India is protesting against the scheduled UNSC meeting.” However, the Foreign Minister noted that a large segment of the society is identifying the oppressive strategies employed by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi against the Kashmiris as a form of genocide.

India Protests against UNSC Meeting

Foreign Minister Qureshi noted that New Delhi has approached multiple members of the UN Security Council, urging them to abandon the decision to convene an emergency meeting of the council on the Kashmir dispute, given that it is an “internal matter” for India.

Responding to a question regarding the accusations levelled by the opposition, claiming that the PTI-led government has not undertaken sufficient research before approaching the UN, the Foreign Minister noted that the government is prepared to go to all extents. Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi informed that he, along with the Foreign Secretary, had approached several members of the UN Security Council, who were apprised with Pakistan’s stance on the Kashmir issue.

The members of the UN Security Council were informed that New Delhi has unilaterally altered the constitutional status of occupied Kashmir, and Islamabad seeks to settle the issue through dialogue, underscoring the global consequences of a military confrontation between Pakistan and India.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi urged all opposition parties to refrain from politicizing the issue of Kashmir. He noted that the UN Security Council is willing to address the issue of Kashmir after five decades, and any attempt to “do politics on Kashmir” will harm the Kashmiri struggle of freedom against the tyrannical Indian occupation.

Pakistan seeks Peaceful Solution

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi underscored that Pakistan seeks regional peace and stability; however, the “racist policies” of the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi threaten to risk the peace and stability in South Asia.

Qureshi stated that Pakistan is in the favor of a peaceful political solution to resolve the Kashmir issue, and Islamabad will present and fight its case in the UN Security Council despite all impediments. He stated that India has turned the occupied Himalayan valley of Kashmir into a prison with a complete communication blackout and movement restrictions.

Tomorrow on our request UNSC meets on India’s unilateral move and the humanitarian crisis in Kashmir. We will continue to take voice of Kashmir to every capital.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi noted that the Muslims across the world seek the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to step forward and play its mandated role in support of the Kashmiri struggle for self-determination. He added that the people of Pakistan are standing behind their armed forces, and stand unanimous in their support for the Kashmiri freedom cause.

The emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, scheduled for Friday, has been convened after Pakistan lodged the request with the 15-member international body to address the rapidly escalating situation in Indian-occupied Kashmir in the aftermath of the Modi administration’s decision to revoke the special constitutional status of the disputed Kashmir region.
