Court dismisses defamation suit against Muniba Mazari

News Desk |

The district court has dismissed the defamation suit filed against social activist Muniba Mazari by her husband. Her former husband accused her of distorting the facts of their relationship and hence damaging his reputation.

Khurram Shahzad had sought Rs. 10 million in damages in the suit filed in December of last year.

Hassan Murtaza Mann, Mazari’s lawyer challenged Khurram Shehzad and requested the court to dismiss the defamation suit.

“This incompetent suit deserves to be buried at its very inception so that the valuable time of this learned court may be saved and frivolous litigation is avoided,” he stated in his appeal to the court.

Her counsel also stated that Shehzad did not serve a prior notice which is a mandatory legal requirement before filing the case in the court.

Hassan Murtaza Mann informed that the petition was dismissed after Shehzad withdrew the complaint.

“The court had given them three chances for arguments and to submit their reply to our rejection application but they failed to do so. Subsequently, today [Monday] they withdrew the suit and the case was dismissed,” the advocate added.

On the other hand, Shehzad admitted the case was rejected due to technical faults. However, he aims to file a fresh case against her after giving her a 14-day mandatory notice.
