Didn’t receive any letter from President Alvi on interim PM: Shehbaz Sharif

President Dr. Arif Alvi sent letters to Prime Minister Imran Khan and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif to seek suggestions for the appointment of a caretaker prime minister for Pakistan. However, Shehbaz Sharif said he did not receive any letter on the appointment of an interim prime minister.

PML-N Vice President Shehbaz Sharif has claimed that he did not receive any letter from President Dr. Arif Alvi regarding the appointment of a caretaker prime minister. This is an interesting claim as PM Khan has already confirmed his nomination.

To clarify, the dissolution of the assemblies led to PM Khan being de-notified as prime minister. However, PTI Chairman Imran Khan will continue as prime minister until the appointment of a caretaker prime minister.

As a result, the President has begun the process of appointing a caretaker premier. Regarding this, President Dr. Arif Alvi sent letters to Prime Minister Imran Khan and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif to seek suggestions for the appointment of a caretaker prime minister for Pakistan.

However, Shehbaz Sharif while talking to the media today, said he did not receive any letter on the appointment of an interim prime minister.

“As I speak, I have not received any letter officially from President Arif Alvi regarding the interim prime minister. Once the letter comes, we’ll have a discussion with our leaders and partners,” Shehbaz Sharif said.

Earlier, Shehbaz Sharif declared that he would not take part in the process and termed it “illegal”. Furthermore, he said that the president and the prime minister had broken the law. He also questioned how they could approach the opposition.

PM Imran Khan’s nominee for caretaker prime minister

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday nominated former chief justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed for the office of the caretaker prime minister.

Former Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry made the announcement, who said the premier made the decision after approval from the PTI’s core committee.

“In response to the President’s letter, after consultation and approval from the PTI Corps Committee, Prime Minister Imran Khan has nominated former Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Gulzar Ahmed for the post of caretaker Prime Minister,” Fawad Chaudhry tweeted.
