FATF grey list: Hina Rabbani sparks criticism for not appreciating PTI efforts

According to Twitteratis, the entire credit goes to the previous government led by former Prime Minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan.

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Hina Rabbani Khar is sparking Twitter backlash for seemingly claiming credit for Pakistan’s recent success.

In a major achievement, the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) declared both Action Plans (2018 and 2021) of Pakistan as complete. FATF has authorized an onsite visit to the country, as a final step to exit from the FATF’s grey list.

As a result, the country is busy celebrating its success. Minister for State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar too congratulated Pakistan. In her latest Tweet, she said the international community has unanimously acknowledged the country’s efforts.

Pertinent to mention, the Pakistan delegation, which attended FATF Plenary meetings in Berlin, was led by Hina Rabbani Khar, who is also the Chairperson National FATF Coordination Committee.

“Congrats Pakistan! FATF declares both Action Plans complete. The international community has unanimously acknowledged our efforts. Our success is the result of 4 years of challenging journey. Pakistan reaffirms its resolve to continue the momentum and give our economy a boost. Well done Pakistan team FATF. Pakistan Zindabad!” Hina Rabbani tweeted.

Twitter backlash

Hina Rabbani’s tweet was met with a lot of criticism on Twitter. According to Twitteratis, the entire credit goes to the previous government led by former Prime Minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan.

The former Energy Minister Hammad Azhar too deserves praise as he was the Chairman of Pakistan’s AML and CFT Group. Under the previous government, led by PTI, Pakistan made significant progress which FATF too recognized.

“It won’t kill you to acknowledge Imran Khan and Hammad Azhar. This would not have happened if it wasn’t for their leadership so please don’t take credit for something you didn’t support in the first place,” one Twitter user wrote.

Amid the backlash, Twitteratis recalled how Hina Rabbani walked out of the National Assembly in 2020 in protest against the anti-money laundering and anti-terrorism bills.

“Our success? You literally walked out of the assembly when FATF legislation was happening. Credit goes to PTI ONLY,” another user wrote.

“By the way, you were also among the ladies and gentlemen who refused to vote on the FATF law, saying that if the money laundering cases of Zardari and Sharif were to end first, then we would vote. Don’t you feel ashamed?” Fawad Chaudhry, PTI leader and former Federal Minister tweeted.
