The good people of Pakistan! Making a difference!

Syed Haider Raza Mehdi |

For years I’ve written about the terrible corruption and loot and plunder which prevails in Pakistan.

About how our leaders have plundered and pillaged our wealth. How they’ve betrayed the public trust. How they’ve hijacked our democratic order to hoist themselves into power and then systematically destroyed our institutions to continue to remain in power.

How our seemingly educated and insightful people have supported these demons under the garb of “supporting democracy” or “fighting militarism”.

But there’s another Pakistan as well.

A Pakistan where thousands of people have used their talents, their skills, their experience, their wealth, even their power and influence, but most importantly their tremendous values and character to do things that have deeply impacted society in many ways.

In alleviating poverty and hunger. In improving health care and education. In saving lives. In making a huge difference in the lives of many who are socially, economically and physically disadvantaged. Who otherwise would have fallen into the deep dark holes of hopelessness.

These are the many unsung heroes of Pakistan. These are the angels who have really saved Pakistan. These are the ones, who’ve sacrificed much, which they didn’t have to, to make a difference and make Pakistan a better place for those they touched and impacted with their work and deeds.

Some of these were also blessed with financial wealth, many with tremendous talent and expertise and skills  and power and influence. But many were not. But all were blessed with the boundless wealth of helping those not as privileged and blessed as they were. And in some cases the difference between the ones they were helping and their own conditions, was barely marginal!

So going forward, I plan to showcase these great souls through my articles, hoping that their work at a minimum makes us feel good and perhaps even inspire others to follow suit.

These are the great souls who decided to do something for the deprived and the disadvantaged with whatever they had which includes talent, money, power, influence and above all hearts and spirits and souls of gold!

These are the good people of Pakistan who are making a difference!
