Imran Khan believes only “Donkeys” would go to airport to welcome the Sharifs

News Analysis |

Pakistan Tehrek-e-Insaf’s chairman Imran Khan has criticized PML-N workers who are gearing up to receive “convicted criminals”, Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz from Lahore airport today. PTI chairman questioned the PML-N activists and workers determined to receive their Supreme leader at the airport. “Whoever goes to receive the father-daughter duo at the Lahore airport today must be a donkey,” he said.

He reprimanded the people willing to welcome convicted thieves of the country. While addressing a rally in Narowal, Khan said that anyone working with a clear conscience would not go to receive Nawaz Sharif.

Reacting to Khan’s bitter comments against the PML-N workers, former minister Maryam Aurangzeb lashed out at PTI chief for ridiculing the party workers. “Imran Khan using the term donkeys for PML-N workers is condemnable. I feel pity for PTI’s political workers, for their leader uses such language,” she said.

Nawaz is hiding behind this hollow rhetoric to gather national and international support against the military. Despite amassing huge wealth, Nawaz portrays himself as the victim.

Moreover, he asked the workers of PTI to show restraint and avoid indulging in any altercations over the arrival of Sharif in the country. Earlier, the father-daughter duo had expressed the desire to address the rally outside the Lahore airport at any cost. However, the Punjab government and NAB have formulated a strategy in this regard to not allow the duo to roam around freely on the roads of Lahore.

Imran has been persistent to not let Nawaz become a hero, considering the fact that he has been convicted over corruption charges. Nawaz is adamant to be considered the Nelson Mandela of Pakistan, as he expects a hero’s welcome after the conviction under the “duress of military establishment”

Nawaz’s mission seems to dilute the military’s role in the region. Nawaz kept the portfolio of foreign minister to subjugate the military information of foreign policy of the country.

He has attempted to portray the army as a major obstacle in the peace process with India. And, his efforts to ensure his premiership to be devoid of military and judiciary’s interference have been thwarted by his ousting.

Moreover, creating an illusion among the public as if he returned to safeguard the future of next generations is the biggest farce one could imagine. The return to Pakistan is Nawaz’s legal and political compulsion, not a desire. Imran has vowed to expose Nawaz’s nefarious designed to fool public.
