Migrant crisis: Europe reaps what US foreign policy had sown

Raja Waqas Shabbir |

The emergence of Islamic fundamentalism and hate against the ‘Collective Western meddling’ in the affairs of the Muslim countries, in particular, has been a major concern. It sparked the outrage among the hardcore Muslim fanatics in Europe seeking revenge. The idea is to show support and facilitate the so-called caliphate in the Middle East, to liberate the Muslim world from western slavery and to get rid of the puppet regimes in the Middle East.

The dictatorships in the Middle East have continued their rule at the cost of shambolic Muslim standing and stature in the global power games, and a meager economic growth has kept the Muslim world at the mercy of powerful and influential Western institutions and countries.

People in EU must show tolerance and patience. They should use their democratic rights through pressure groups to force their elected members to stop supporting American wars to upheld her hegemony of the world

The manner of revenge is indeed questionable and wholly prohibited in Islamic doctrines. But, why can’t the EU residents simultaneously question the barbaric and damaging foreign policies of their respective countries towards the oppressed Middle Eastern nations? Why the life of an innocent Europeans killed in cowardly attacks is more precious than a victim of brutality in Baghdad, and Syria (inflicted through proxy wars of the west).

Why is it so hard for Britain and other EU powerful democratic countries to put peace and justice at the heart of their foreign policies?

It is not a Mullah rhetoric but a result of insight into the work of American lead ‘world order’ which in its efforts to undermine & dislodge Muslim threat is ensuring enough damage in the Muslim world to deny any decisive uprising and empowerment. It is despite the fact that some of the Muslim countries still possess the bulk of black gold.

The ongoing crises in the Middle East where Syria continues to burn have resulted in massive migration into European countries, particularly in the economically enriched ‘Western European’ elite.

Europeans did not live a life of class and standard which they enjoy today. Living in Europe was worse in at the start of industrial revolution than the life of their remote ancestors in Stone age

The rise of German far right in recent German elections, United Kingdom’s Brexit vote and surge in sentiments favoring the extreme right in Holland, Hungary, and Italy reminds us the effects of fear-mongering.  A mostly one-sided reporting of media against the barbaric acts of Muslims on Muslims whether it’s Shia attacking Sunni or Sunni killing Shias. Who seeded this mess in Muslim heartlands?

Did Western media ever report that how the attacks of two sects on each other have flourished since the fall of Baghdad? Was Iraq a better country under Saddam or now under the experimental handpicked regime of US. The conspiracy theories regarding the creation of ISIS, and it’s network, also needs logical answers. Why the chaotic wars and unrest in the Middle East is essential for the American Arms industry to flourish and continue its growth?

Peace in the Middle East could allow the Muslim countries to stand a chance to grow at steady pace. The economic development of these affected countries may reduce their dependence on America and potentially challenge American hegemony in the world affairs. In Syria few stay to fight, some have moved to neighboring Muslim countries, but the majority chose to flee for the economically prosperous Western Europe.

The question is why the blood of an Englishman and French have more value than the Muslim blood mercilessly flowed in Syria, Baghdad, Kashmir Palestine and now in Myanmar. Why is it so difficult to feel warmth for Muslim killings?

The effects of Great Recession are yet to recede and most of EU countries sans Germany, France, Norway, Sweden, and Denmark, most of the EU countries are struggling to reach the pre-crisis level. Austerity measures introduced by IMF and ECB in Greece, Italy, Portugal and Spain had negative repercussions. First benefits dried up. Secondly, unemployment increased and third hate against the immigration ignited the debate against the Muslim immigration. The psychological pressure due to lack of funds, jobs insecurity, reduced number of work hours and benefit cuts augmented with the threat of Muslim attacks promoted EU people to generally oppose the migration.

The EU people should be reminded that the economic migration is not something only experienced and endured by the Muslims of 21st century. History depicts how Persian and Abbasid empire was a recipient of a massive influx of EU people. Why did they migrate then? Was it not an economic migration.

Since the crises erupted, there are plenty of people from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan which are also part of the contingent that has entered into EU. Initially, it was far easier to come, but lately, more stringent measures taken by EU has made the entry difficult for Syrian displaced & other economic migrants. However, people are still taken enormous risks to using sea or virtually tricky terrains to enter into a land of progress.

The psychological pressure due to lack of funds, jobs insecurity, reduced number of work hours and benefit cuts augmented with the threat of Muslim attacks promoted EU people to generally oppose the migration

No doubt, individual fundamentalist elements are taking advantage of innocent young Muslims by convincing them to attack non-Muslims. It is fortunate that young one is radicalized to avenge the deaths of innocent Muslims including children and women in the Middle East. The increasing hostility of EU nationals against the Muslim community migrating is mainly due to media failure to present the unbiased views and analysis.

The result is that continues hate preached through media, acts of evil of bunch of radicalized youth and immigration of Muslims into Europe at difficult economic times have aggravated the hostility against the Muslim migrants. People have stopped showing any remorse or concern on killings of Scores of Muslims around the world, but damaging attacks in London without any casualty would put things on halt, and people demonstrate and register their concern for the well-being of their loved ones.

The question is why the blood of an Englishman and French have more value than the Muslim blood mercilessly flowed in Syria, Baghdad, Kashmir Palestine and now in Myanmar. Why is it so difficult to feel warmth for Muslim killings? The opposite reaction to the murder of Muslim and non-Muslims reflects the hypocrisy of the West. Those who celebrate humanitarianism need soul-searching. They must ask themselves why do they behave, and express differently to murders of Muslims and non-Muslims?

The conspiracy theories regarding the creation of ISIS, and it’s network, also needs logical answers. Why the chaotic wars and unrest in the Middle East is essential for the American Arms industry to flourish and continue its growth?

Why EU, in general, does not feel for the Muslims facing atrocities inflicted in the Middle East by some aspects of the developed world which don’t want to give peace a chance? Why EU people and pressure groups question the damaging foreign policies of their democratic regimes? Those scared and frightened of Muslim migration must explore the historical facts. They must know.

It was the plundering of gold, silver and rare ornaments from Americas crowned Spain as a superpower, followed by the colonial backed success of Portugal and United Kingdom.  It was the industrial revolution which brought the tremendous transformation in the living standards in late 18th and 19th century. It was the rise of America post WWI and technological development which alleviated the poverty and misery in Europe.

Before this development, Europeans did not live a life of class and standard which they enjoy today. Living in Europe was worse in at the start of industrial revolution than the life of their remote ancestors in Stone age. It is confirmed by factual and logical analysis of Gregory Clark in this book-A farewell to Alms: A brief economic history of the world.

It is not a Mullah rhetoric but a result of insight into the work of American lead ‘world order’ which in its efforts to undermine & dislodge Muslim threat is ensuring enough damage in the Muslim world to deny any decisive uprising and empowerment

Europe should be reminded that it was the tremendously prosperous empires in Asia and potential of China and India which attracted the migrants from Europe to settle in particularly in Persian and Abbasid empires.

Currently, the tides have turned. Earlier EU people moved to Asia and the Middle East and now the reverse is happening. People in EU must show tolerance and patience. They should use their democratic rights through pressure groups to force their elected members to stop supporting American wars to upheld her hegemony of the world. Peace in Europe is connected with the change in American foreign policy. Unless America and NATO don’t stop meddling in affairs of Muslim countries, security of EU and its people will remain a risk.
