The National Assembly of Pakistan on Friday suspended the membership of PML-Q parliamentarian Tariq Bashir Cheema for his expletive remarks against MNA Zartaj Gul Wazir.
Parliament witnessed pandemonium when Tariq Bashir Cheema moved close to the seat of Zartaj Gul Wazir and passed crass remarks against her after finishing his speech on the floor of the parliament. Following this, Zartaj Gul Wazir started crying and reached the office of the Speaker of the National Assembly to register a complaint against him.
Members of the opposition benches registered strong protests against Cheema with some even reaching treasury benches to beat him. The fiasco started after Tariq Bashir Cheema lost his temper from the constant interruption by Zartaj Gul Wazir regarding the Islamia University Bahawalpur case. The case allegedly involves Cheema’s son.

The opposition party said that they are mulling over registering an FIR against Cheema. The incident forced the Speaker National Assembly to intervene. Tariq Bashir Cheema tendered an apology to Zartaj Gul Wazir which she accepted. The leader of the opposition Omar Ayub appreciated the efforts of Ayaz Sadiq for sorting out the matter peacefully.
Gul said that she accepted the apology on the direction of her party. When the house met today, Speaker Sadiq remarked: “An incident happened yesterday, which upset many members.”

Ayaz Sadiq tabled the motion seeking the suspension of Tariq Bashir Cheema in the National Assembly session held on May 17th, 2024. All the lawmakers approved the motion.
Sharing the development on X, the official account of the National Assembly of Pakistan said: “National Assembly during its today’s session adopted a motion to suspend membership of MNA Ch. Tariq Bashir Cheema for the remainder of the 5th session.”
“The Speaker after adoption of the motion remarked that the step has been taken in the aftermath of the unfortunate incident that took place during the sitting of the House on May 16, 2024,” read the tweet on X.
