Pakistan condemns Chinese consulate attack: PM Khan orders investigations

Prime Minister Imran Khan has condemned the attack on the Chinese Consulate in Karachi, calling it a conspiracy to malign the Pak-China relations. In a post on Twitter, statement of the PM Khan read,” Strongly condemn the terrorist attacks against Chinese Consulate in Karachi & in Orakzai tribal area.

My prayers go to the victims & their families. Salute the brave security/police personnel who gave their lives & denied success to terrorists in the mission ag Chinese Consulate.”

The premier has ordered an immediate inquiry of the attack. Multiple explosions were heard near Chinese Consulate in Karachi’s Clifton area on Friday early morning and were followed by gunshots. Three terrorists possessing hand grenades and other weapons tried to enter the consulate were killed by law enforcement agencies, GVS reported earlier.

Two policemen were martyred during the fire exchange. Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Geng Shuang during a regular press briefing today said that all Chinese consular staff and their families were safe following the attack.

“China strongly condemns any violent attacks against diplomatic agencies and requests that Pakistan takes practical measures to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens and institutions in the country,” Geng said. Condemnations pour-in across the country following the attack.

Opposition leader Shahbaz Sharif while addressing at the floor of the National Assembly condemned the attack and said, “China is an old ally and friend of Pakistan; enemies’ evil designs will be foiled by both the nations.” Chairman Pakistan People’s Party, Bilawal Bhutto also reacted to the incident.

The Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi soon after the attack talked to the journalists outside the Parliament house and strongly condemned the attack over Chinese consulate. He lambasted the cowardly act of evil enemies of the country. “The attack was aimed to disturb the friendly relations between China and Pakistan,” he said.
