PPP leaders’ names removed from police challan in Jokhio murder case

The development has caused outrage on social media as the authorities previously named MPA Jam Awais and his brother as the prime suspects. The journalistic community has voiced its displeasure and criticized the Sindh police.

In a major development, the names of PPP MNA Jam Kareem, his brother MPA Jam Awais and six others have been excluded from the Nazim Jokhio murder case.

According to details, the investigation officer of the case, Siraj Lashari, submitted the challan to the anti-terrorism court. Instead of MPA Jam Awais and PPP MNA Jam Kareem’s names, the officer nominated the names Haider, Mairaj, and Niaz.

The development has caused outrage on social media as the authorities previously named MPA Jam Awais and his brother as the prime suspects. The journalistic community has voiced its displeasure and criticized the Sindh police.

“Injustice with the family of journalist Nazim Jokhio. Name of main suspect a PPP MNA has been removed from the final murder challan. Shame on Sindh police and Sindh government. Journalist bodies should stand with the widow,” leading journalist Mazhar Abbas tweeted.

The murder case

Back in November 2021, a man named Nazim Jokhio, who was a father of four, tried to stop a group of foreigners from illegal hunting. He also made videos as evidence. However, he was caught and subjected to torture which led to his death.

Prior to his death, Nazim made another video narrating the entire incident. He said he received threatening phone calls. Furthermore, Nazim also warned that in case of any harm to him, the person at whose house the “hunter guests” were staying would be responsible. Pertinent to mention, the farmhouse belonged to PPP MPA Jam Awais.

“I am not afraid but this video statement of mine should be kept on record. I am receiving threats and I will not seek an apology,” he said in the video.

After investigation, the police booked PPP MPA Jam Awais, including his brother PPP MNA Jam Abdul Karim. The authorities also listed MNA Jam Abdul Karim as a fugitive since he escaped to Dubai.

An unpleasant turn of events?

On the other hand, PPP MNA Jam Abdul Karim returned to Pakistan ahead of the no-confidence motion against Imran Khan. The Sindh High Court (SHC) even granted a 10-day protective bail to the PPP MNA.

The news of Jam Abdul Karim’s return had caused quite the storm in Pakistan. The previous government said it will arrest Jam Andul Karim as soon as he lands in Pakistan. However, the PPP MNA postponed his return.

Two days ago, SHC also extended the bail of Jam Abdul Karim and others accused till April 14. Moreover, Nazim Jokhio’s widow even pardoned the PPP lawmakers.
