This news came on the heels of the life-time disqualification of the former premier Shahid Khaqan Abbasi which has exacerbated problems for PML-N. Moreover, several other prominent PML-N leaders such as Daniyal Aziz have also been barred from contesting in next general elections.

Pundits believe that PML-N will continue to disintegrate and be damaged due to internal rifts over tickets and control of the party. PTI is set to make gains in Punjab at the expense of PML-N and may form government in the center. However, Pakistani politics is unpredictable and major upsets should not be ruled out.
