Telenor hosts first ever game summit, bags awards

Experts and enthusiasts from the Game Development sector, from Tech giants such as Google and from the Telco magnate Telenor, scrambled at the first ever game summit in the history of Pakistan. The mega-summit called the ‘game-bird’ was construed and organized by Telenor in Lahore, 20th of April. This newfound Launchpad for game developers by Telenor will help boost the game development sector.

The speaking line-up included Dr. Umar Saif, Chairman of the Information Technology Board of Punjab and Vice Chancellor of the University of Information Technology, Mr. Fawad Asghar, Chief Technical Officer of the animation firm WeRplay, Miss Sadia Bashir, Founder and CEO of Pixel Arts game academy and Mr. Faizan Iftikhar, CEO GeniTeam amongst other distinguished game developers and animators.

Telenor Pakistan won the “Best in Telecommunications in Pakistan” award for its ‘VOGON’ campaign and the award for “Best in PR” for the media campaign on “Tax Rationalisation” with Media Matters as campaign partners, it added.

The summit was centered around giving out tips and tricks to aspiring game developers, acknowledging the significant game development ecosystem in Pakistan and to provide a new platform for discussion on related developments, creating a seam between the Pakistani and global game development market. The single day event gave developers the opportunity to broaden their horizons, meet people from the industry, google and Telenor to discuss ideas, share experiences and to create liaisons.

Telenor Pakistan’s Chief Digital Officer Durdana Achakzai addressed the game developer’s Pakistan chapter; “We are delighted to host Pakistan’s first game summit in a city that is rapidly emerging as the largest game development market in the country. We are grateful to corporations such as Google for joining us and the experts from the industry that have come together today and sharing ideas as to how we can move forward with boosting the gaming industry.

We hope that the ideas that the participants take home with them today contribute towards placing the Pakistani game development industry on the global map.  Dr. Umar Saif, Chairman of the Punjab IT board also expressed his views and congratulated Telenor and Google for the outstanding assemblage and the results it could yield for the industry.

Telenor has been awarded several awards at various platforms for its initiative towards local empowerment, sustainable development and generating airwaves with different awareness campaigns. As gamebird summit generated positive reviews and was hailed as an excellent effort towards bringing the game development ecosystem in a stream, Telenor won several awards this month for various campaigns and initiatives.

Telenor Pakistan bagged four awards at the 8th Pakistan Advertiser Society (PAS) Awards ceremony, a statement from Telenor said on 17th April. Telenor Pakistan won the “Best in Telecommunications in Pakistan” award for its ‘VOGON’ campaign and the award for “Best in PR” for the media campaign on “Tax Rationalisation” with Media Matters as campaign partners, it added.

Continuing with its innovative methods of communication, Telenor primarily focuses on digital as a mean of effectively communicating with its customers. This resulted in the company winning two additional awards and being the only operator to feature on Google’s YouTube Ads Leaderboard for its “Jo Har Pakistani Chahay” communication and an episode from Pakistan’s first online movie “Oye Kuch Kar Guzar!”, it said.
