The incident came to light following a viral video in which the policeman, identified as Constable Mir Hassan,  was seen beating the woman mercilessly. He held her by her hair and hit her multiple times while other passengers saw the incident happening silently.

The incident happened on April 7th, 2024 on the Millat train heading to Lala Musa from Karachi. Deputy Inspector General of Police Railways Abdullah Sheikh reported the incident.

The woman belonged to Jaranwala, Faisalabad, and was identified as Mariam Bibi. The victim’s brother Afzal said that she worked in a beauty parlor in Karachi and was coming home to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr.

Afzal said that Maryam left Karachi on April 7th, 2024 by Millat Express. He said that police informed them of her death and said that she died after falling from the train.

“We buried her on April 9 in the village thinking it was a train accident. When the video went viral, the truth behind the incident and the violence on my sister came to the fore,” he added.

Afzal said that the policeman beat his sister, killed her, and threw her body on the railway track. They asked the police to file a case against him but no action was taken.
