Babar Azam heckled as ‘Zimbabar’ at Multan Cricket Stadium

Players Muhammad Haris and Aamir Jamal changed their profile pictures to Babar Azam to express solidarity with Babar Azam.

Fellow cricketers and teammates express support to skipper Babar Azam after he was heckled by the crowd at Multan Cricket Stadium.

Babar Azam lost his wicket after scoring one run in the second innings of the second Test match against England in Multan. The crowd chanted ‘Zimbabar Zimbabar’ when he was returning to the pavilion after losing his wicket.

The video got viral on social media. Condemnation for the nosy and rowdy crowd at Multan Cricket Stadium poured in on social media. Azam’s fans and supporters rallied in to express solidarity and support for Babar Azam.

“World Cricket praises him, he is an international star, he scores against all the teams, he’s the backbone of Pak CKT team. Such chants against a player and that too by the home crowd are very bad in taste. Nations that don’t respect their heroes, don’t produce many,” said one cricket fan on Twitter.

“Very much disappointed by Multan crowd. How could u do that to Babar? Respect your Captain, he is the Pride of Pakistan. Ask other Teams how badly they wish a Babar Azam on their team,” said sports journalist Zeeshan Qayyum.

“What a disgraceful way to treat a national hero and one of the world’s best,” wrote another sports journalist on Twitter.

A day earlier, Babar Azam recreated a viral meme with the Marais Erasmus. The video of Babar Azam with Marais Erasmus has gone viral on the internet.

A horizontal picture of Babar Azam and Erasmus standing showed Erasmus’s large belly as Babar Azam’s belly.

The video showed Babar Azam walking to the umpire and they both stood in the same way. After which, both laughed. Babar Azam walked away after patting the belly of the umpire.
