Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan has taken a vote of confidence with a majority. According to details, he received 88 votes in his favor.

Important to note, earlier, the Opposition had decided to take back the no-confidence motion filed against the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The move comes after the Opposition ousted former prime minister Imran Khan from power.

According to details, the joint Opposition did not want to overthrow the provincial government. However, the no-confidence motion aimed at preventing the dissolution of the provincial assembly. Now with Imran Khan officially removed from the PM seat, the Opposition has decided to take back the no-confidence motion against KP CM.

On April 8th, the joint opposition in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa filed a no-confidence motion against Chief Minister Mahmood Khan. Awami National Party’s (ANP) Sardar Babak said opposition leader Akram Durrani submitted the no-confidence motion against the KP chief minister after consultation with all opposition parties.

PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had earlier announced that the joint opposition would file a no-confidence motion in KPK, Gilgit-Baltistan, and AJK to totally uproot the PTI-led governments in the country.

Regarding this, PPP President and Opposition Leader in GB Amjad Hussain revealed plans of initiating a no-confidence motion against Chief Minister Khalid Khurshid. However, now that the Opposition withdrew the no-confidence motion against KP CM, it is unclear whether it will proceed with the no-confidence motion against GB CM.

On the other hand, the Opposition is currently facing resistance despite its recent success. To clarify, the public totally rejected the Opposition as the next government. Last night, the public gathered on the streets across Pakistan to voice support for Imran Khan. Moreover, PTI governors are also resigning from office.

Mass resignations

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Governor Shah Farman already announced that he will quit if PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif becomes prime minister. However, there are reports that governors of Sindh, Punjab, and Gilgit-Baltistan will also follow suit.

“I will relinquish as the governor after Shehbaz Sharif becomes the prime minister,” Shah Farman said. The KP Governor House had issued a statement announcing his resignation. “I cannot give Shehbaz the protocol of prime minister,” Farman also said.

Similarly, Punjab Governor Omar Sarfaraz Cheema, Sindh Governor Imran Ismail, and Gilgit Baltistan Governor Raja Jalal Hussain Maqpoon are also likely to tender their resignations. Moreover, PTI MNAs also resigned from the National Assembly.
