Documentary on Sharif family ‘Behind Closed Door’ features Imran Khan

The trailer launch has created a buzz in Pakistan; along with featuring key PTI leaders it also features Pakistani journalists Arshad Sharif and Irfan Hashmi.

The upcoming new documentary ‘Behind Closed Door’ on Pakistan’s Sharif family will also feature Imran Khan. Khan will appear along with other PTI leaders in the documentary covering the corruption cases.

The documentary has been endorsed by Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project. The trailer has been released on YouTube. The trailer launch has created a buzz in Pakistan; along with featuring key PTI leaders it also features Pakistani journalists Arshad Sharif and Irfan Hashmi.

Earlier, ambiguity prevailed if the documentary will be released on Netflix. The makers say the platform has not been decided yet. The documentary highlights how politically exposed persons have used the British financial system and offshore jurisdictions to launder or hide their wealth.

The documentary trailer opens up with Kenyan journalist John-Allan Namu saying, “How it has been described is that there has been one rule for the elite especially the elite that is connected to power and other for everybody else, I think I will leave it at that.” He is followed by a quote by Frédéric Bastiat, a former member of the National Assembly of France.

Arshad Sharif is heard saying, “Accounts were opened in the name of these low-level low-wage employees who do not come into the tax net. Money used to be deposited in those accounts and finally, they used to land in the accounts of either Mr. Hamza Shahbaz, Mr. Salman Shahbaz, or Mr. Shehbaz Sharif himself. They said people used to come with gunmen into the banks.”

Irfan Hashmi calls London the second ‘house of Sharifs’. Another journalist also calls London “a money launderer’s paradise”.

The trailer of the documentary has been shared by PTI leaders including Fawad Chaudhry, Taimur Jhagra, Sayed Zulfi Bukhari, and others. The documentary has been directed by Michael Oswald and produced and written by Murtaza Mehdi.
