Fawad Chaudhry calls Amazon, Netflix to invest in Pakistan’s drama industry

Minister for Science and Technology, Fawad Chaudhry called on American online media services to invest in Pakistan's drama industry following the success of blockbuster drama serial, 'Meray Pass Tum Ho'. His tweet signalled that given the wide viewership of Pakistan's drama industry, American online media services, with a million subscribers from across the world, would not regret investing in the country.

Minister for Science and Technology, Fawad Chaudhry called on American online media services to invest in Pakistan’s drama industry following the success of blockbuster drama serial, ‘Meray Pass Tum Ho’ as he appreciated ARY Digital for broadcasting a record-breaking drama serial.

Besides felicitating the team of the drama serial, he also praised controversial playwright of the serial, Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar.

Chaudhry extended an invitation to the online streaming services, Amazon and Netflix to invest in Pakistan’s drama industry in a tweet posted following the final episode of the highly-popular drama serial, Meray Pass Tum Ho’ that was broadcasted on Sunday.

While addressing the online streaming services, Fawad Chaudhry claimed that Pakistan’s drama industry is growing and performing well than the neighborhood drama industry. Fawad Chaudhry talked highly of Pakistan’s drama industry in his tweet. His tweet implied that given the fine quality of Pakistan’s drama industry, American online media services, with a million subscribers from across the world, would not regret investing here.

Perhaps Fawad Chaudhry is not mistaken here because several Pakistani drama serials like Humsafar, Zindagi Gulzar Hai were earlier broadcasted on Indian TV channels and racked up substantial appreciation and viewership from the Indian audience.

The broadcast of Pakistani drama serials even got Pakistani actors like Mahira Khan, Imran Abbas, Fawad Khan and Saba Qamar lead roles in Bollywood aside A-list actors. Mahira Khan made her Bollywood debut alongside Shah Rukh Khan in the movie ‘Raees’ in 2017 and received appreciation from the Indian audience.

Saba Qamar made her Bollywood debut alongside Irfan Khan in Hindi Medium that unexpectedly became a hit flick. Similarly, Fawad Khan also made his Bollywood debut alongside Sonam Kapoor in the movie ‘Khoobsurat’. He even made a guest appearance in Karan Johar’s movie, ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ in 2016.

Hence, Fawad Chaudhry rightly suggested that Pakistan’s drama industry has extreme potential to develop into a lucrative and highly successful entertainment industry at par with the Turkish and American drama industries. Perhaps he believes Pakistan’s drama industry can claim global success alike Turkish serials that have taken over the world permeating in Latin America, the Middle East, and Asia in the last decade.
