Hayatabad operation concludes after 17 Hours: Five terrorists killed

News Desk |

Law enforcement agencies have killed five suspected terrorists during a heated operation in Hayatabad, Peshawar, which lasted for 17 hours, ending on Tuesday afternoon. The Intelligence Based Operation (IBO) began on 8 pm Monday night as the security agencies obtained reports of terror suspects hiding out in a house in Peshawar’s Hayatabad area. A police official was martyred during the combat with the terror suspects. Media reports reveal that two women have sustained injuries.

The terror suspects had taken refuge in a house in Hayatabad’s phase 7 area, and when the security forces launched their proceedings, they opened fire and attacked, which led to the operation that ensued for over 16 hours. Locals reported hearing two loud explosions during the operation and while the security forces were able to shoot down five suspected terrorists, two or three suspects continued to put up a strong resistance upon taking refuge in the top-most floor of the residential building.

KP Information Minister Shaukat Ali Yousafzai announced that the security forces had been tipped off about terror suspects hiding out in the locality, and these suspects have been accused of launching attacks on the AIG and judges.

The security forces succeeded in storming the building and secured the premises. The authorities have yet to confirm the total number of casualties incurred during this counter-terror operation. Speaking to Dawn News TV, an eye witness of the encounter described the terror suspects, “The people [terror suspects] had been living in the house on a rental basis for almost 15 days. They seemed to be from the rural areas from their appearance. All of them were middle-aged men and there were no women with them. They used to enter and exit the building using the basement door only.”

Residents from the neighborhood revealed to media outlets that the security personnel and rescue forces had evacuated the house, while the two women who were injured during the encounter are now being treated at the Hayatabad Medical Complex.
