Here is what Mahira Khan had to say about her awkward friendship with Hamza Ali Abbasi

News Desk |

“Humsafar” and “7 Din Mohabbat In” actress, Mahira Khan has been on a rollercoaster of the year. The actress made her debut at the Cannes Film Festival becoming the first Pakistani actress to walk the red carpet as an ambassador for L’Oreal Paris. She subsequently starred in the biggest hit this year, “7 Din Mohabbat In” which is close to earning a million US dollars at the box office. But her upcoming film “Maula Jutt 2” which reunites her with “Bol” star Humaima Malik and “Humsafar” co-star Fawad Khan, could be another huge hit for her. Recently, Mahira opened up about her friendship with another “Maula Jutt 2” co-star, Hamza Ali Abbasi.

In a candid interview with BBC Urdu, the actress spoke about how she was reluctant to be his friend and told him so point blank:

“I’ve known him for many years. Initially, when we met, I told him I don’t want to be friends with him since I already have lots. But when we came together to work, I told him that his and my ideas are quite contradictory.”

To this the “Mann Mayal” actor replied, “Why can’t we agree to disagree?”

Mahira Khan’s hesitance to be fast friends with Hamza Ali Abbasi most likely stemmed from him being a huge supporter of PTI. Like most actors, Khan prefers to stay away from politics. Of course this doesn’t mean she doesn’t speak up about social issues. The actress has been vocal for her support of the Me Too movement and has been an advocate for women’s rights. It may have been this particular part of her that caused her to interject when Hamza Ali Abbasi chose to drag Aisha Gulalie and Reham Khan in a tweet recently.

She opened up the Twitter exchange too stating, ““I probably wouldn’t have done it to anyone else but Hamza. I’m not going to disassociate myself from someone like Hamza. I’ve known him for many years. I agree with Hamza’s core values and I believe he always speaks the truth. When Hamza believes in something, he sticks by it which is why I feel that he’s a very good person.”

Both are now good friends and often interact with each other on Twitter to the delight of their fans. She even gave him a rather cheeky shout out on his birthday this year.
