Imam of Masjid Al-Aqsa prays for PM Imran Khan every morning?

Sheikh Ekrima made the statement in a video call with Minister of Religious Affairs Pir Noor-ul-Haq Qadri. Sheikh Ekrima also appreciated Imran Khan's efforts in raising his voice for Palestine.

The Imam of Masjid Al-Aqsa in Jerusalem Sheikh Ekrima Sabri says he prays for PM Imran Khan every morning. He made the statements while talking to Minister of Religious Affairs Pir Noor-ul-Haq Qadri.

Former SAPM on Political Communication Dr. Shahbaz Gill revealed the news on Twitter. He said the Imam of Al-Aqsa Mosque conveyed a special message for Imran Khan. Dr. Shahbaz Gill then quoted the Imam as saying that Imran Khan is the hope for the entire Muslim Ummah, including Palestine.

However, some Twitteratis, allegedly from the PML-N camp, claim that Sheikh Ekrima did not make any such statements. Apparently, an account posing as Sheikh Ekrima rejected the statements. On the other hand, the Twitter account supposedly belonging to Sheikh Ekrima turned out to be a fan account. Nevertheless, many Twitteratis still retweeted it while criticizing the PTI leader for spreading false news.

Sheikh Ekrima’s statement

In retaliation to the criticism, PTI Senator Faisal Javed Khan shared an image of Minister of Religious Affairs Pir Noor-ul-Haq Qadri in a video call with Sheikh Ekrima.

“Minister of Religious Affairs Pir Noor-ul-Haq Qadri talks to Imam of Al-Aqsa Mosque Sheikh Ikrama Al-Sabri via video link,” Faisal Javed tweeted.

He then wrote that Sheikh Ekrima appreciated Imran Khan’s efforts in raising his voice for Palestine. Important to note, that Sheikh Ekrima Sabri is a staunch critic of the decades-long Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories and was arrested several times by Israeli forces.

“Every morning in Masjid Aqsa I remember Imran Khan in my prayers,” Faisal Javed Khan quoted Sheikh Ekrima as saying.

Currently, Imran Khan faces a tough political battle in Pakistan due to the no-confidence motion against him. Nevertheless, his strong support for the Palestine cause has gained him international recognition. On several occasions, PM Khan condemned the Israeli attacks on Palestine.
