Imran Khan approves reorganization of PTI Punjab

The reorganization will provide a greater focus on the ongoing public mobilization and prepare the party for the upcoming elections.

PTI Chairman Imran Khan has approved the structural organization of PTI’s Punjab Chapter. Interestingly, the move comes a week after PTI’s Azadi March and Shafqat Mehmood’s subsequent resignation as the PTI Punjab President.

According to details provided by Farrukh Habib, who is the spokesperson for the party, Chairman Imran Khan directed that Punjab be divided into three regions i.e North, South, and Central.

Former Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid will be PTI Central Punjab President with former Energy Minister Hammad Azhar as the General Secretary.

Aamir Mehmood Kiani, who served as the party’s additional secretary-general, will lead the North Punjab chapter. Meanwhile, former SAPM on E-Commerce, Senator Aon Abbas Buppi is now the PTI South Punjab President.

As per the party notification, the reorganization will provide a “greater focus to the ongoing public mobilization and to prepare the party in the upcoming elections”.

Shafqat Mahmood’s resignation

Earlier, former Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood resigned from his post as the President of PTI Punjab, citing “health reasons”.

He announced on Twitter that he could not continue his responsibilities due to health issues. The former education minister, after the PTI’s Azadi March, remained hospitalized and underwent surgery on Wednesday.

“It was an honour and privilege to serve as President PTI Punjab and I thank Chairman Imran Khan for the opportunity. It is time for change due to my surgery and convalescence. I congratulate the new President and will serve the party in whatever capacity assigned,” Shafqat Mahmood tweeted.

On the other hand, there are reports that Imran Khan had asked Shafqat Mahmood to resign as he was displeased with the mismanagement at the Azadi March. Imran Khan was also, allegedly, disappointed as PTI Punjab failed to put on a strong power show forcing him to call off the Azadi March.
