Pakistan under Imran Khan was India under Virat Kohli: Sanjay Manjrekar

Former Indian skipper Sanjay Manjrekar likened Virat Kohli's captaincy to the glorious Pakistani skipper, Imran Khan. Both Imran Khan and Virat Kohli have claimed astounding success and fame in the cricketing fraternity with their tenacity and headstrong approach to succeed.

Former Indian skipper Sanjay Manjrekar likened Virat Kohli’s captaincy to the glorious Pakistani skipper, Imran Khan, who led Pakistan to a 1992 Cricket World Cup triumph.

Sanjay Manjrekar said that the prolific leadership of Virat Kolhi and the Indian cricket team’s victory in New Zealand reminded him of the Pakistan cricket team under the captaincy of Imran Khan that excelled at cricket and had astounding ways to steer the game to victory from a losing position. Manjrekar added that this would only be possible with a strong self-belief.

“India under Virat in NZ reminds me of Pakistan under Imran. Strong self-belief as a team. Pakistan under Imran found different ways of winning matches, often from losing positions. That only happens when the self-belief is strong” wrote Sanjay Manjrekar.

Perhaps, Sanjay Manjrekar implied that willful Virat Kohli mirrors Imran Khan. Both Imran Khan and Virat Kohli have claimed astounding success and fame in the cricketing fraternity with their tenacity and headstrong approach to succeed.

Virat Kohli racked up appreciation on social media after India registered an unbelievable 5-0 victory against New Zealand in the T20 series. India has become the first team to set such a record.

Earlier, Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Akhtar and Abdul Qadir have likened Virat Kohli’s captaincy to Imran Khan.

“Both lead from the front. Virat Kohli takes responsibility and performs and then expects other players to also perform,” Abdul Qadir had said. “Imran has the personality and ability to get performance out of his players. Kohli is not yet there (at the level of Imran). But no doubt the Indian captain also leads by example by performing himself.”

Kohli has registered himself as the most successful captain of the Indian cricket team. He has the most number of bilateral T20 and test series win. As a captain, Virat Kohli aced 10 T20I series- most by any skipper.
