Mahira Khan honored at UK Asian Film Festival 2018

Pakistani starlet Mahira Khan was presented with an accolade of Contribution to Film and Activism at the opening ceremony of Asian Film Festival in the UK yesterday. Mahira Khan expressed her gratitude on receiving the award and dedicated her victory to her son.

“Thank you. I’m going to keep it short,” laughed Mahira. “Like you said, if my son is being overlooked (because of my work)? I always ask my son about what should I say? Should I thank you? And he would always respond, ‘Please don’t thank me.’ So, I hope someone is recording this!”

The Asian Film Festival UK will celebrate the South Asian culture through film and art intertwining social messages. It has been organized to keep women at the center. The theme of the festival will propagate the women-eccentric messages.

It will exhibit films that speak of women empowerment and have strong female representation. Mahira Khan’s movie ‘Verna’ will be celebrated at the festival.

‘Verna’ was a highly anticipated Pakistani film directed by acclaimed director Shoaib Mansoor, known for his films ‘Khuda Kay Liye’ and ‘BOL’. Mahira Khan stars as Sara, a teacher abducted and raped for three days by a governor’s son. This political drama movie will be presented for screening on March 16, Friday.

The film encountered a brief ban prior to its release for its subject matter that Censor board classified as controversial and inappropriate for public screening.

The Asian Film Festival UK also organized a special screening for Pakistan. Another upcoming highly anticipated movie ‘Cake’ which features Aamina Sheikh and Sanam Saeed in the lead roles. The movie is expected to release on March 30th, 2018 in Pakistan.

Mahira Khan also joined the star cast of movie ‘Cake’ at London premiere. The starlets from Pakistani industry were seen posing for pictures joyously.
