Netizens slam Sharif sons for attending official Saudi meeting

Netizens, including PTI leaders, are questioning the presence of the Sharif sons in the PML-N government meeting with the Saudi Crown Prince.

Netizens are slamming the sons of Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif for attending an official government meeting in Saudi Arabia. Images of Nawaz Sharif’s son Hussain Nawaz and Shehbaz Sharif’s son Salman Shehbaz in the meeting are going viral.

To clarify, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is on an official three-day visit to Saudi Arabia. Accompanying him are Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Finance Minister Miftah Ismail, Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, and Pakistan Ulema Council Chairman Tahir Ashrafi among others.

During his visit, PM Shehbaz met Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman in Jeddah. In that meeting, both the leaders discussed bilateral ties, including matters related to expanding business and trade.

Interestingly, Hussain Nawaz and Salman Shehbaz (who hold no government positions) also attended the meeting. This has irked social media users as they question the capacity in which they attended the meeting.

Furthermore, netizens are also recalling how Nawaz Sharif’s sons categorically rejected being Pakistanis as they hold British nationalities. Therefore, netizens, including PTI leaders, are questioning their representation in the PML-N government meeting with the Saudi Crown Prince.

“When he had to give an account, he said that I am a British citizen and Pakistani law does not apply to me. Was he representing the UK at the official meeting yesterday? Wanted people are made a part of federal and then they say why the people are getting angry,” Dr. Arsalan Khalid, Focal Person to former Prime Minister Imran Khan, tweeted.

“Hussain Nawaz absconded from Pakistani courts but why and under what moral authority and law is he present with the Pakistan delegation while meeting MBS at the expense of Pakistani taxpayers?” a netizen asked.

NAB laws don’t apply to us: Nawaz Sharif’s son

Various cases against the Sharif family pertain to Hill Metal Establishment, Al-Azizia Steel Mills, Avenfield property, and the Flagship Investment Ltd. Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his sons, Hassan and Hussain, have been accused in all the references.

However, Hassan Nawaz, in 2017, claimed that warrants or proceedings by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) don’t apply to him and his brother Hussain Nawaz as both of them hold British nationalities.

Similarly, in 2018, Hussain Nawaz said that the NAB’s step for their arrest has no legal standing. He said that the anti-graft watchdog should do whatever it wants through Interpol as the Bureau’s actions have no legal standing. The ex-PM’s son said that no illegal actions are possible in Britain.
