Pakistan to set up separate judicial system for Overseas Pakistanis

Fawad Chaudhry said the government will enact these laws in view of Prime Minister Imran Khan's vision to facilitate overseas Pakistanis, who are the precious asset of the country. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab will also establish a similar judicial system.

The Federal Cabinet approves the formulation of a separate judicial system for Overseas Pakistanis to ensure summary trial. Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry revealed the news during a media briefing regarding the government’s federal cabinet meeting.

He said the government will enact these laws in view of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s vision to facilitate overseas Pakistanis, who are the precious asset of the country.

“We [cabinet] have given approval for a separate judicial system for overseas Pakistanis, continuing our tradition to think about and work for their benefit,” Fawad Chaudhry said.

The minister said an act for the implementation of this system in Islamabad had been sent to the Council of Common Interests. Later, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab will also establish a similar judicial system. Moreover, any region with the PTI government in power will adopt the same setup, including Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.

Fawad Chaudhry also noted that expeditious trials were the right of every citizen.

“But overseas Pakistanis come from abroad. They can’t stay here for long and so the government did this for them,” he explained.

Govt to introduce strong defamation laws: Fawad Chaudhry

During the detailed media briefing, Fawad Chaudhry revealed that the cabinet has directed the law ministry to bring strict legislation against defamation and hate speech on social and electronic media.

The decision comes in light of the recent media attack on Minister Murad Saeed, and subsequently the First Lady.

“It is embarrassing to see that the people file cases abroad on the defamation cases as they don’t have any trust in the judicial system here. Anyone can say anything here without any repercussion because defamation is a bailable offense, Fawad Chaudhry said.

“Even national security institutions come under fire. The hate speech is rampant on media platforms,” he further added.
