On July 5, Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Secretary General Khurram Nawaz Gandapur tweeted out a video of an airplane narrowly avoiding a collision with an oil tanker on the runway.
In the tweet, the PAT official praised the pilot for his presence of mind in making the great escape. It would have been totally cool and commendable if the video was not a simulation from the widely played video game – Grand Theft Auto V (GTA-V).
“Narrow escape of an aircraft which could have ended in a great disaster. Miraculous save by the pilot’s presence of mind,” Gandapur said in his tweet. He commended the pilot’s skill and his calm state of mind as he avoided the crash.
In this clip an oil tanker was crossing runway and at same time an aircraft fully loaded with passengers landed.
Within minutes, his tweet prompted an explosion of responses by the Twitterati for not being aware that it was a video game simulation. He was a little late to discover that the video was not of a real-life situation, but rather a part of the gameplay.
Though he was quick to delete the tweet, the internet already had its laugh. There was no ‘miraculous save’ for his tweet and commenters soon erupted into a mockery.
Once the story was taken by media outlets, netizens shared videos from GTA-V on YouTube explaining how the lawmaker mistook the GTA-V gameplay for real-life footage.

Many quickly found that the video was stimulated but there were others who were not able to distinguish between reality and simulation when they watched the video, possible because of the modern computer graphics used in the video.
Surprising as it may seem Gandapur was not the only one to make the mistake. Another user shared an expert opinion and “appreciated” how pilot saved the lives of passengers.
