Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has said that Prime Minister Imran Khan’s successful visit to the United States has made the opposition sleepless.

In a series of tweets, the PM’s special assistant said that PM Khan’s US visit, the enthusiastic welcome from his supporters, his electric address to the biggest gathering in Capital Arena One, and the successful meeting with the US President Donald Trump has made the opposition, especially the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif, sleepless.

In addition, while reacting to Shehbaz Sharif’s comments earlier in the day, Dr Awan said that the visit has shattered the hopes of the “House of Sharif”. She said Sharif’s comments reflected his poor mindset and corrupt nature. They “show his jealousy of the Captain”, she said, referring to the PM by his position in the cricket team.

In a tweet, Awan said that the opposition leader in the National Assembly “was unable to digest the biggest gathering of Pakistanis in the history of the US.” She said that Shehbaz could have appreciated Imran Khan’s simplicity and frugality instead of passing sarcastic remarks about him travelling in buses.

She added: “Shehbaz Sahab! You’re the biggest trickster who travels on foot in London but becomes addicted to the protocol as soon as you land in Pakistan.” She continued: “The more you mislead people with the malice and rancor against Imran Khan, the more the peoples’ love for Imran Khan increases.”

Awan said that PM Khan has emerged as a strong advocate of the Kashmiris’ rights during his visit to the US. She noted that he has strongly highlighted the issue before the world.

She also said Sharif should have read the statement of Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Gilani, who had appreciated the PM’s stance on the lingering dispute, before doing politics on Kashmir.
