PM Shehbaz condemns case on Dr. Yasmin Rashid

A Lahore anti-terrorism court issued non-bailable arrest warrants for 12 PTI leaders, including Dr. Yasmin Rashid, for allegedly vandalizing and damaging property during the party’s long march.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reportedly condemned the charges filed against former health minister Dr. Yasmin Rashid. He also expressed his reservation to the Punjab government.

To clarify, earlier, a Lahore anti-terrorism court issued non-bailable arrest warrants for 12 PTI leaders, including Dr Yasmin Rashid, for allegedly vandalizing and damaging property during the party’s long march.

Arrest warrants have also been issued for Hammad Azhar, Murad Raas Zubair Niazi, Mehmood ur Rasheed, Aijaz Chaudhry, Aslam Iqbal, and other PTI leaders.

On this note, Salman Sufi, the head of the Prime Minister of Pakistan’s strategic reforms, revealed the PM’s concern.

“PM Shehbaz has expressed his serious concern on the charges filed against Madam Dr. Yasmin Rashid and it has been conveyed to the government of Punjab,” Salman Sufi tweeted.

As a result, the name of Dr. Yasmin Rashid has been excluded from the list of arrest warrants on the orders of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

On the day of PTI’s long march, Lahore turned into a battleground as multiple scuffles took place between the police and PTI marchers as the latter tried to wriggle out of the barricades placed on their way.

The police also clashed with a convoy led by Dr. Yasmin Rashid. The Punjab Police resorted to tear gas shelling at the PTI rally led by Dr. Yasmin Rashid. Moreover, they attacked her vehicle, breaking the windshield.

Dr. Yasmin Rashid was heading to Batti Chowk when she had an argument with policemen deployed to block the party workers from leaving the city. Police personnel told the PTI leader that she can not go but she did not pay any heed and continued to drive ahead.  At this, the police resorted to baton charge and broke the vehicle’s windscreen. However, she managed to make her way.

Dr. Yasmin Rashid also asserted that she was pushed and dragged along by the police. The police arrested her but released her shortly.

The public had lashed out at the police for their mistreatment of 80-year-old Dr. Yasmin Rashid who is widely respected for her work and is also battling cancer. Netizens have also praised Dr. Yasmin Rashid for taking a strong stance and not surrendering to the unlawful use of force by the police.
