The federal government has also urged the SC to take notice of the ongoing political turmoil in Punjab. The federal ministers maintained that LHC’s decision does not fit legal parameters

Political crisis in Punjab

Late Thursday, Punjab Governor Baligh-ur-Rehman denotified Chief Minister Parvez Elahi for not seeking the vote of confidence despite his advice.

Chaudhry Parvez Elahi on Friday moved LHC against Punjab Governor Baligh-ur-Rehman for denotifying him as Punjab’s chief minister. Parvez Elahi filed a petition in which he appealed to the court to declare the governor’s move illegal. He argued that the Punjab Governor did not fulfill the constitutional requirement and ordered a vote of confidence during the ongoing session of the Punjab Assembly.

As a result, the LHC Friday restored Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi and the provincial cabinet after suspending the governor’s denotification order.

The LHC suspended the governor’s denotification order after getting assurance from Parvez Elahi to not dissolve the Punjab Assembly.

The LHC wanted an undertaking from Parvez Elahi that he would not dissolve the assembly as if he would resort to the move, it could deepen the ongoing political turmoil in the province.
