Selena Gomez’s Perspective on Social Media Breaks

Selena further disclosed that she appreciates these breaks because she feels “more present” and “happier” during those times.

Selena Gomez stands by her decision to take breaks from social media, despite the drama that often surrounds her absence.

The 33-year-old singer-actor last went offline in January amidst the Golden Globes controversy involving herself, Taylor Swift, Kylie Jenner, and Timothee Chalamet. Sharing her hiatus through a reel featuring her boyfriend Benny Blanco playing with children, she stated, “I’m off social for a while. I’m focusing on what really matters.”

Discussing the topic at the Time 100 Summit on Wednesday, the “Single Soon” artist reflected, “Well, I took four years off of Instagram, and I let my team post for me during that time. I felt like it was the most rewarding gift I gave myself.”

She elaborated, “I think people, especially young kids, are so focused on what looks wonderful when everything that’s meant to be wonderful to you is not from here.”

Selena further disclosed that she appreciates these breaks because she feels “more present” and “happier” during those times.

“I would actually get real phone calls about people telling me their story, and I could actually hear it instead of going, ‘Oh, I already know what you did today.’ It’s more human,” she explained.

The “Only Murderers in the Building” star admitted that managing her own Instagram account can be “frustrating” at times.

“I just – I find it frustrating, and then I get a little mouthy, and I want to defend people I love. So I try not to…I don’t really pay much attention. I’ll just do things here and there,” Selena concluded.
