Tragedy Strikes Balochistan: Deadly Blast at Eid Miladun Nabi Procession Claims Lives

Over 50, including a senior police officer, lost their lives in a suspected suicide bombing during an Eid Miladun Nabi procession.

In a tragic incident on Friday, a suspected suicide bomber unleashed destruction in Balochistan’s Mastung district. The attack occurred near a gathering commemorating Eid Miladun Nabi (PBUH), resulting in a devastating loss of life.

Casualties and Injuries

Reports confirmed that at least 50 individuals, including a high-ranking police official, lost their lives in the explosion. Among the victims was DSP Mastung Nawaz Gishkori. Additionally, over 100 people sustained injuries, and there are concerns that the casualty count may rise.

The Scene of the Tragedy

The blast struck near Al-Falah Mosque, where people had congregated to partake in the Eid Miladun Nabi procession. Law enforcement swiftly cordoned off the area, and rescue teams worked tirelessly to transfer the injured to nearby medical facilities. Hospitals declared an emergency, with staff members instructed to report for duty immediately.

Security Measures Heightened

Following the horrific attack, Karachi Police announced that they would be on high alert under the directives of Additional Inspector General Khadim Husain Rind. Security measures were bolstered to ensure the safety of Eid Miladun Nabi events and processions throughout the city.

A Nation United Against Terrorism

In the wake of the tragedy, condolences poured in from across the nation. Interim Information Minister Murtaza Solangi emphasized that acts of terror would not weaken the nation’s resolve. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s unity against terrorism, vowing to eliminate this menace with the cooperation of security forces.

Interim Interior Minister Sarfraz Bugti strongly condemned the “terrible act” of targeting innocent people during Eid Miladun Nabi. He assured that all available resources would be utilized for the rescue and relief operation, promising the best medical care for the injured.

PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif expressed his deep dismay at the attack on a day commemorating the birth of the Holy Prophet (PBHU). He called the act detestable in this world and the Hereafter, offering condolences to the affected families and demanding top-notch medical facilities for the injured.

Prior Incidents

This tragedy follows an earlier incident in Balochistan where senior JUI-F leader Hafiz Hamdullah survived a bomb attack. The blast injured several individuals, including Hamdullah, as he traveled through the Mastung district. It occurred shortly after the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) had eliminated a key IS commander in the same district.
